Experience the effectiveness

of ancient Chinese medicine

Acupuncture is an effective therapy for pain relief, rebalancing the immune system and treating functional and mental illnesses.

The millennia-old Chinese doctrine of acupuncture assumes that a person's vital energy flows through the body in certain pathways (meridians).

This energy is the reason that you breathe, that your heart beats and that every cell in your body is working for you 24 hours a day and it reaches the surface of your skin at over 700 points.

If the flow of this energy is disturbed - for example by environmental influences such as cold, heat, draughts or poor nutrition, emotional stress and overexertion - various illnesses and painful conditions can arise in your body.

In acupuncture, the energy flow in the meridians is restored by puncturing the surface of the skin with very fine needles. Your body returns to its natural balance and many symptoms disappear.

Questions & answers about acupuncture

How does acupuncture work?
Pain relief through harmonization of the energy flow

If the energy flow is harmonized again via the corresponding skin points, pain is quickly relieved.

During the treatment, the corresponding acupuncture points, which are located along the meridians, are activated by a gentle stimulus with acupuncture needles. These points are related to individual organs and organ areas, which is why the stimulation of an acupuncture point stimulates the respective organ to heal itself.

Acupuncture therefore does not treat the diseased organ directly, but the meridian or acupuncture point to which the organ is assigned.

Improvement of functional diseases

Functional diseases are diseases that not are caused by permanent organ damage; they can be treated, improved and cured with the help of acupuncture.

Diseases of internal organs can be accompanied by changes and pain on the surface of the body. For example, pain in the area of the right shoulder blade can be an indication of gallbladder disease.

Just as there is a pathological path from the internal organs to the surface of the body, there is a healing path from the surface of the body to the internal organs. This means that acupuncture provides stimuli that reach the internal organs and can improve or restore their function.

An appropriate diagnosis must be made before starting therapy. Only then can functional disorders of organs be treated with acupuncture.

Various mechanisms are responsible for the effect of acupuncture
  • The formation of endogenous morphine-like substances (endorphins) and nerve transmitters (neurotransmitters). These substances have the following effects Pain-relieving and psychologically relaxing.
  • Activation of pain control mechanisms. Stimuli at certain points are intended to Switch off pain sensitivity in the brain stem. As a result, pain impulses from the disease that occur later can no longer arrive (Gate Control Theory).
  • Reflex effect of acupuncture. By stimulating acupuncture points on the skin, the organs assigned to these points are influenced.

What can you expect from acupuncture?

The doctor will start the therapy by placing you in a relaxed position, i.e. usually lying down.

There is a minimal unpleasant sensation when the needle is inserted, which usually disappears when the needle is inserted deeper.

Only when the needle is in its final position should a dull sensation of varying intensity arise, which is related to the effect of the needle and is called "de qi". After a few minutes, this feeling subsides so that the patient lies down without any major sensations for a treatment period of around 20 minutes.

As few needles as possible are always inserted, with a maximum of 10-12 during a session.

What are the side effects of acupuncture?

If used correctly and the anatomical conditions are observed, acupuncture has practically no side effects.

In rare cases, a temporary vegetative circulatory reaction may occur, which can be remedied by removing the needle. During pregnancy, some points that may trigger contractions must not be needled.

However, vomiting and other pregnancy-related disorders can be alleviated very well with acupuncture.
